The Sparx Maths Curriculum provides a comprehensive five-year programme for Years 7-11, combining mastery and spiral approaches to deliver an intelligently sequenced learning journey. See our Sparx Maths Curriculum website to learn more.

Using the Assessments & Revision page

If your school uses the Sparx Maths Curriculum, you can use the supporting revision tasks, assessment papers and reporting, fluency follow up tasks and problem solving insights to supercharge your use of the Curriculum.

Please note that the Assessments & Revision features aren't available for any curricula other than the Sparx Math Curriculum.

Revision tasks

Each Sparx Maths Curriculum assessment (except the Y7 Baseline Assessment) has a corresponding revision task, which can be switched on for each class before they sit the assessment.

The task consists of a series of questions on each of the topics included in the assessment. Students complete these questions online, in Sparx Maths.

Setting revision tasks

You need to set a revision task (turn it on) for a class for students to be able to complete it.

  • From the 'Curriculum' page, under 'Assessments & Revision', click 'View Assessments'

  • Choose the year group and assessment that you want to set a revision task for, then click on its 'Assessment Overview' button

  • Choose the class that you want to set a revision task for, from the class selector at the top of your site

  • Click on the 'Revision' tab

  • Click on 'Turn on Revision task for [class name]'

  • The revision task is now turned on, and visible to students when they log in to Sparx Maths

Monitoring revision task completion

Once you've set a revision task for a class, you can monitor students' progress through the task, including whether they've started or not; their completion percentage overall and for each topic; how long they've spent on the task; and how many questions they've answered for each topic.

  • From the 'Curriculum' page, under 'Assessments & Revision', click 'View Assessments'

  • Choose the year group and assessment that you want to monitor a revision task for, then click on its 'Assessment Overview' button

  • Choose the class that you want to monitor a revision task for, from the class selector at the top of your site

  • Click on the 'Revision' tab

  • Refer to the completion table to view students' progress

Ending revision tasks

You can turn an existing revision task off when you no longer want students to be able to complete it.

When you do this, students will no longer see the revision task when they log in to Sparx Maths, but you'll still be able to see monitoring data and insights for the task.

  • From the 'Curriculum' page, under 'Assessments & Revision', click 'View Assessments'

  • Choose the year group and assessment whose revision task you want to end, then click on its 'Assessment Overview' button

  • Choose the class whose revision task you want to end, from the class selector at the top of your site

  • Click on the 'Revision' tab

  • Toggle the 'Revision task' slider to 'Off'

  • The revision task is now turned off and students will no longer see it when they log in to Sparx Maths

Viewing revision insights

Once students have started completing a revision task, we'll generate insights to help you to identify skills that students may be struggling with. We also provide a presentation view to make it easier to display the skills on your whiteboard, to work through with the class.

  • From the 'Curriculum' page, under 'Assessments & Revision', click 'View Assessments'

  • Choose the year group and assessment that you want to view revision task insights for, then click on its 'Assessment Overview' button

  • Choose the class that you want to view revision task insights for, from the class selector at the top of your site

  • Click on the 'Revision' tab

  • Click on the 'Revision insights' tab

  • If you want to present the insights to the class, click on 'Presentation view'

What do revision tasks look like for students?

  • After you've set a revision task for a class, the next time a student in that class logs in to Sparx Maths, they'll be asked to choose between 'My Homework' or 'Revision & Assessment'

  • When the student clicks on 'Revision & Assessment', they'll see all revision tasks available to them

  • They can see their progress for each revision task, and click 'Do some revision' against any task that they want to work on

  • The first time a student completes a revision task, they'll need to watch a video explaining how revision tasks work

  • The student completes questions in a similar way to their Sparx Maths homework, with a couple of differences:

    • The student can skip between questions using the left hand bar

    • Students don't receive bookwork checks whilst completing revision tasks

  • If the student wants to switch between their revision task and their homework, they can click on the Sparx Maths logo at the top of the screen

Assessments

We provide termly assessment papers and mark schemes for each year group that's using the Sparx Maths Curriculum. When used in conjunction with the assessment reporting and insights features in Sparx Maths, our assessments can be used to gauge students' understanding of the Curriculum, and to help you to identify opportunities for further teaching and revision.

Downloading assessment papers and mark schemes

  • Go to the Sparx Maths Curriculum website

  • Select your school if it's not already selected

  • To log in, enter the same username and password that you use to log in to Sparx Maths

  • Click on 'View the curriculum'

  • Choose the year group that you want to download papers for

  • Under the term that you want to download papers for, scroll across to and click on 'Resources' under 'Assessment & Revision'

Entering assessment marks

Once students have completed their assessments and you've marked them against the provided mark scheme, you can enter the results into Sparx Maths.

Doing so makes your school eligible to participate in and receive national comparison reports, and unlocks assessment reporting and insights.

  • From the 'Curriculum' page, under 'Assessments & Revision', click 'View Assessments'

  • Choose the year group and assessment that you want to enter assessment marks for, then click on its 'Assessment Overview' button

  • Choose the class that you want to enter assessment marks for, from the class selector at the top of your site

  • Click on the 'Assessment' tab

  • Click on the 'Enter/edit mark data' tab

  • Click on the first student in the list

  • You can now enter marks for each question, for the selected student

  • You can use the arrow keys on your keyboard to quickly move between questions

  • If the student was absent for the assessment, you can tick the 'Student absent for assessment' checkbox

  • Note that it's not currently possible to import assessment marks (e.g. via CSV or Excel). They have to be entered in to Sparx Maths.

Viewing assessment reports

The reports tab gives a question-by-question and unit breakdown of average marks for Class, Year or individual student. At the top of the page, there are also options to download a printable report of assessment results that can be given to students, as well as downloading a CSV of assessment score information.

Viewing assessment insights

This page highlights the problem solving questions that your class struggled with the most. It provides how many students got the question wrong on the assessment, as well as the actual question from the paper, and shadow questions from Sparx Maths to run through with your class.

Setting follow up tasks

Once the assessment data has been entered, you can generate a Fluency Fix Up task for your class. This gives students the opportunity to work on any fluency questions from the assessment where they missed out on marks. You can also track student progress through the task on this page.

Baseline assessment

Using the unique content from Sparx Maths, we've designed a formative baseline package, to help you understand what your Year 7 students know and don't know about key topics from Key Stage 2.

You can download this year's baseline assessment package from our Sparx Curriculum website.

Archive of baseline assessment packages

Note: to be included in the National Report and to use the in-product QLA and fix-up functionality, the latest version of the assessment should be used.

National Comparison Reports

Enter your school's data before the deadline to receive a report including:

  • How the distribution of marks for the school compared to the national distribution.

  • How the school performed on each unit of the curriculum compared with the national performance.

  • How the school performed on each question compared with national performance.

Frequently asked questions

Can I meet with someone to discuss the Sparx Curriculum?

Yes, you can book a Curriculum Chat with one of our Lead Advisors on the Sparx Curriculum website. Log in, and click on 'find out more' on the blue info bar at the top of the site.

Can I upload a QLA/assessment marks into Sparx?

Currently it isn't possible to upload the data from the excel QLA spreadsheet into the online Sparx marksheet.

We understand that having to re-enter data is not an ideal solution and we are sorry for the impact that this may have. If you'd like to leave feedback about wanting the option to upload a spreadsheet, it would be helpful if you could upvote the existing request in our Feedback and Suggestions board here: Upload QLA data to Sparx from excel/sheets.
