Sparx Maths upgrade announcement FAQs

Updated over a month ago

This article frequently asked questions in response to our announcement of the upgrade to Sparx Maths, coming soon.

About the upgrade

Why are we upgrading Sparx Maths?

We’re upgrading Sparx Maths so we can serve you and your students even better. By moving to a modern platform, we’ll be able to respond more quickly to your feedback and introduce new features to help reduce teacher workload and strengthen learning outcomes.

Is this upgrade free?

Yes. This upgrade is completely free of charge and included in your current Sparx subscription, so there’s no need to budget for anything new. Our priority is making sure every school can benefit from these improvements without additional cost.

When is this going to happen?

We’ll begin rolling out the new platform in the spring term, starting with a small number of schools. The transition will be gradual so we can support everyone properly, but we’ll have all schools moved over to the new platform by autumn 2026.

You’ll receive plenty of notice and support before it’s time for your school to move over.

What's changing and why it matters

What’s going to change for me?

For most teachers and Heads of Department, the day-to-day experience of using Sparx Maths will stay familiar. You’ll still find the same core tools for setting, reviewing and monitoring homework and your existing data will carry across automatically.

The upgrade will give you smarter reporting, clearer visibility of student progress and new features like Flashcards to help students secure core knowledge. You’ll also benefit from enhanced dashboards and insights that make it easier to track engagement, share what’s working and intervene early when needed.

For students, the Sparx Maths platform and experience will be identical to how it is today. Their login, rewards and homework process will stay exactly as they are today. Alongside this consistency, students will gain access to new features such as integrated Flashcards and improved support tools to help them strengthen key knowledge and build confidence in their learning.

What are the benefits to teachers and students?

For teachers, the upgrade is designed to save time and reduce admin, as well as provide clearer reporting, a simpler visibility of homework completion and new ways to understand student engagement.

Students will benefit from new features like Flashcards and improved lesson quizzes to support deeper understanding and make practice more meaningful.

The platform and features will still feel familiar, so you won’t need to do any additional training.

How will this impact students using AI to do their homework?

The upgrade includes improvements that make it easier for teachers to see genuine student effort and understanding. Enhanced tools like the Lesson Quiz and updates to the homework system will make it harder for students to rely on AI, helping ensure their practice is authentic and meaningful.

These changes are designed to protect the value of homework, giving teachers clearer visibility and helping students build good learning skills and habits.

Moving over to the new platform

Do I have to move over?

Yes, all schools will move over to the new version of Sparx Maths as part of the upgrade. We’ll make the process smooth and minimise disruption, so you can keep using Sparx as normal.

The new platform will help us bring you new features faster, with smarter tools and ongoing improvements that save time and support learning.

Can I get early access to the upgrade?

We’ll be in touch when the upgrade is available for your school. Most schools will be invited to confirm their upgrade in the spring term, with the move taking place in stages and all schools on the new platform by autumn 2026.

Will it affect my current set-up?

No, all your existing data, including classes, homework and student progress, will transfer over automatically. Your current logins, settings and rewards systems will stay exactly the same, so you and your students can work without interruption.

Will it feel different for teachers or students?

While the upgrade introduces a range of improvements for both teachers and students, it’s been designed to feel familiar and consistent for everyone.

Will I have to change my reward system?

No, you won’t need to make any changes. Your existing reward systems will continue to work with the upgraded platform. Everything has been designed to transfer over smoothly, so the recognition and incentives that motivate your students can continue just as before.

Preparing for the transition

Do I need to do anything to prepare?

There’s nothing you need to do right now. When we’re ready to move your school over, we’ll get in touch with clear next steps and all the support you need.

The transfer will happen automatically in the background, with minimal downtime and no action required from your IT team.

Will teachers need training on the upgraded system?

No, there’s no need for additional training. The upgraded platform has been designed to work just like the current one, so teachers can continue using Sparx Maths straight away. Support and guidance will still be available through our Help Centre and chatbot, Fin, if needed.

Will students or teachers notice any downtime during the upgrade?

You may notice a short period when access to Sparx Maths is paused while we complete the move to the new platform. We’ll keep this to a minimum and let you know in advance so you can plan around it.

Data and access

Will my historical data still be available?

Yes, all of your data from the current academic year will still be available.

Will my login still work?

Yes, your login won’t change.

Can I see a demo/preview of the upgraded system before it launches?

Some schools will be invited to upgrade early in the spring term so we can learn from their experience and keep refining the transition.

We’ll share more opportunities to preview and explore the new platform in upcoming communications.
