About the Fundamentals curriculum

Around 20% of incoming year 7 cohorts comprise students that could be considered non-secondary ready.

Fundamentals is a specially designed curriculum for students requiring additional support to access Key Stage 3 material (specifically for students who achieve a scaled score of between 80 and 99 in their Key Stage 2 maths exam).

The content is based on the upper KS2 national curriculum in England and is available at two levels:

  • Level 1: Most basic content

  • Level 2: Slightly increased pace for students who have built confidence

If a student has been deemed too weak to sit a Key Stage 2 maths exam or failed to achieve a scaled score of 80 in Maths, Sparx Maths may not be right for them. In this case, we would recommend setting them alternative homework at their level.
